Our Vision & Mission

Imiloa was named by a Hawaiian elder who discovered our vision and said what we were describing was, “Imiloa.”

Imiloa means “creativity expressed through wonder and imagination”

Imiloa is a home and an experience where all living beings are welcomed to awaken their consciousness in service and harmony to ourselves and the planet.

We are an intercontinental institute for the education and advancement of humanity. Our world embracing vision is cataylzed with the expansion of six additional institutes. Costa Rica is our flagship location.

We believe that through a spirit of service and a posture of learning, inviting retreat leaders and educators to hold workshops and events in parallel with profound, meaningful, sustained community involvement with our team, their families in the communities that both Imiloa and them call home, that we can contribute to the individual and social transformation of the planet.

Historically, Costa Rica has been the meeting place of tribes for thousands of years. It is the cradle of the North and South, a meeting point for the Incas and the Aztecs, and it was the perfect first intercontinental location for us as Costa Rica continues onward in its rich history of being a meeting place to exchange ideas, vision and go deep within to discover what we’ve been seeking.

As a global community eco-system focusing on education, mentorship and service, Imiloa is the intersection of discovery, creativity, imagination and transformation.

We are a place that many often remark, “feels like home.” You can  reconnect with the childlike wonder inside of you. Think about your favorite book when you were 7 or 8 years old… the hero of that book is who you get to become at Imiloa. Transformation ought to be playful and profound, and in service to communities beyond just our own. That is the Hero’s Journey, after all.

Let the sounds, smells and power of nature activate your senses perhaps in a way like they haven’t been before. Let it wash away all the noise and congestion of modern life, leaving behind only the authentic you. Maybe it’s been buried. No worry. It’s there and will be powerfully re-ignited at Imiloa.

Explore All That Imiloa Has To Experience

We create the experience of home that allows human beings to raise their consciousness.

Plant Based Cuisine

At Imiloa, we are a proudly conscious comfort food campus. That means we serve healthy, locally-sourced, gourmet vegan meals that are as artistically plated, scientifically nourishing and delightfully crafted for all of our retreat guests.

House of Masters

It’s where the world comes to learn. It’s a 250m² Balinese super-structure and classroom, hanging 100 feet in the jungle. It’s equipped for your audio-visual needs. Often used for workshops, yoga, meditation, gatherings and dance parties.

Three salt water pools and spas overlooking the ocean.

Untouched Nature

Miles of jungle pathways that lead to different gems on the property, including our private waterfall, named by the priests of the Indigenous Tribe (Kogis, from Colombia) “Morundwa.” The tribe visited Imiloa, as many tribes do, and activated our waterfall.

Heart of Imiloa

This is at the center of the property where groups eat and share time together. The space is a blended design honoring the indigenous of Costa Rica and imported Balinese pieces. “Heart” is 200m² of dining, multi-use, loungy and relaxation space. Perfect for break out sessions, dining, dancing, deepenings, relaxing or individual meditation and rejuvenation.

Imiloa Institute Team

Our team was selected for their emotional intelligence, heart and humility. They align with our core values of causing a Joyful and Fun environment, our Eco-Aware approach to building and sharing, transparency that they can only have what they’re wanting if the rest of us are getting what we’re wanting. “If you win, then I win.”

Our team mostly consists of Ticos (Costa Rican locals) and the Indigenous who have come together in a spirit of service and discovery. They are dedicated to the process of creating our shared vision (and yours!) with groups.
